About AI4LIB
AI4LIB, Artificial Intelligence for Libraries, is a global community built for one purpose: helping library and information science professionals everywhere understand, adopt, and shape the use of AI in their work.
Our Aims
- To build AI literacy among librarians, archivists, and information professionals worldwide, at every career stage
- To track how AI is genuinely changing library systems and services, distinguishing real shifts from hype
- To create a space where questions about AI can be asked without either excessive enthusiasm or unnecessary anxiety
- To make AI adoption accessible across languages, including English and Hindi/Hinglish, so language is never a barrier to participation
Our Objectives
- Share daily updates on AI developments relevant to libraries and the LIS profession
- Deliver training for librarians to build practical, applicable AI skills
- Develop AI-based solutions and tools tailored to library systems and workflows
- Explore how AI is reshaping cataloguing, reference services, discovery systems, and repository management
- Surface the ethical dilemmas libraries face as AI tools enter everyday workflows
- Document the evolving skill set librarians need to remain relevant in an AI-shaped profession
What We Actually Do
Every day, AI4LIB shares updates on AI developments that matter to libraries, so the community stays current without having to chase the news itself. Each week, we hold an Open Hour over Zoom, an open conversation among LIS professionals on whatever in AI is worth discussing that week, often doubling as informal training on specific tools and techniques. A digest follows each session, distilling the discussion for our WhatsApp group and beyond.
Alongside this, AI4LIB works on developing practical AI-based solutions for libraries, from AI-assisted MARC record preparation for Koha to tools that support cataloguing and repository workflows. Longer explorations, including research findings, tool comparisons, and case studies, are published here and on our YouTube channel, covering topics like global journal ranking data and comparisons of research tools like Mendeley and Zotero.
Who This Is For
Catalogers, repository managers, LIS educators, students, and anyone in the library and information science field, anywhere in the world, with a genuine question about what AI means for their work.
